Christmas gadgets suggestions
If you already have a smart home, chances are you like to enjoy the latest gadgets too. With Christmas just a few weeks away, we thought we’d stop talking about technology you can integrate into your smart home system for a while and just look at our top five favourite gadgets of the moment. Some ideas to treat your family [or yourself ;)] ranging from stocking fillers to major gifts.
DJI Mini 3 Pro
Drones are all the rage, but most of the high-performance drones require you to take online training and undertake an assessment before you can legally operate them in the UK. The DJI Mini 3 Pro though weighs under 250g which means it is exempt from that requirement (although you should still register yourself as a drone operator with the CAA). With 4K HDR video, you’re not compromising on the quality of footage you shoot. An improvement over the previous DJI Mini 2 is the inclusion of a number of collision detection features, usually only found on much more expensive drones—so it’s ideal for the beginner (although we’d still recommend getting the DJI Care Refresh option—just in case!)

Sony Playstation 5
Although the PS5 was launched over a year ago, for a long time availability was heavily restricted, making them more difficult to buy than the fabled hen’s teeth. Thankfully they are now more readily available. The increase in video performance over the PS4 is absolutely staggering; and the audio performance isn’t too shabby either. If you already have a 4K-capable home cinema room you’ll be absolutely blown away by the immersive gaming experience offered by the PS5. The only other decision is which game(s) to also buy to keep the family entertained and engaged over Christmas.

Focal Utopia headphones
No doubt you already have an amazing audio system and high-performance speakers at home. Listening to music though is often a very personal experience and sometimes you just need to immerse yourself in a way that can only be achieved by listening through headphones. French manufacturer Focal are renowned for manufacturing some of the finest sounding headphones available, none better than their range-topping Utopia. Recently updated, these open back headphones are not just incredibly revealing (especially when fed with a high-resolution music source) but also comfortable for many hours of uninterrupted listening. If you want to avoid disturbing others in the room, consider the closed back Focal Stellia instead.

Amazon Fire TV Stick 4K Max
You already have access to Netflix, Amazon Prime and other streaming TV services on every TV in your home (if not, speak to Modal AV) but what about when you’re on holiday, away on business or staying with friends? The original Amazon Fire TV stick was somewhat underpowered and could be a little frustrating to use, but the latest version is as fast as any TV streaming box available and fully supports 4K Ultra HD and the popular high dynamic range (HDR) flavours, so you don’t compromise on quality. Keep one in your travel bag so you can catch up with your favourite TV show or do a bit of binge watching wherever you are. And at just over fifty quid it’s not a disaster if you accidentally leave it in a hotel room (just remember to remotely deactivate it from your account!)
