Chesham Luxury Care Home
Our brief was to provide an easy to use distributed audio and video system with a dedicated cinema room within a luxury care home. The focus was to ensure the system was easy to operate and maintain.
Our chosen audio platform was Control4, Control4 provides initiative, easy to use operation from on wall touchscreens and handheld remotes. This gives the end-user access to all the well-known streaming services such as TuneIn Radio, Spotify, Amazon Music and much more. Each zone can independently play a stream of audio or be grouped together to create a scene of music flowing throughout the building. The front of house staff was given master control over the audio system from a local touchscreen, whilst other zones can only control their local audio selection.
16 Zones of audio are powered via Triad 16 channel amplifiers fed into Monitor Audio in-ceiling speakers. Zones consist of dining areas, lounges, a hair salon, gym, bistro, reception areas, assisted bathrooms and an external bistro area. The external area utilises Monitor audio “Climate” speakers that are IP rated allowing them to withstand all weather conditions.
Cinema Room
The “Picture palace” cinema is a 7.1 speaker configuration layout with a 3.3 metre wide acoustically transparent screen, allowing the chosen Triad in-wall speakers to be mounted behind the screen, this gives the optimum audio delivery, meaning the action is delivered directly from the viewing area. A Triad in-wall subwoofer was used to allow less clutter in the room with maximum performance. Monitor audio on wall dipole speakers was used to provide surround speaker channels and to help overcome the room design speaker implications.
Video is delivered to the 3.3M screen via an Epson 4K projector, video sources available are SKY, BluRay, Apple TV and a local HDMI input allowing presentations and regular in house staff training. Full 18GB HDMI fibre cables were used throughout the distribution to cope with all video formats.
Operation of the room is carried out via a Control4 handheld remote which sits within a recharging dock when not in use. Modal AV micro user guides were provided so new users can pick up the remote and instantly start using the system.
Sky HD is distributed across two lounge areas, allowing centrally located SKY boxes within our equipment rack and Control4 handheld remotes within these areas.
Staff Training
Full staff training was provided on-site, allowing staff to learn how to create playlists, control multiple zones of audio, operate the cinema and how to troubleshoot the systems. Advance training was given to maintenance staff and management on how to access purchasing rights for movies and additional paid-for content within the cinema.
Remote Support
Modal AV prides itself on our support systems, we have a professional remote monitoring system in place allowing access to all our equipment on site. Should there be an issue, our systems will self heal or should they require assistance we are able to remotely reboot equipment and provide proactive remote support, something which has been paramount during the recent unprecedented times.
